Highland Park is Safer Thanks to $9,690 Grant

Funds for New Hose Improves Safety and Reliability

DALLAS (Aug. 7, 2012) – Ragland, Strother & Lafitte (RSL) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company are awarding a $9,690 grant to the Highland Park Fire Department for purchase of new fire hose..

Specifically, the fire department will purchase 1000 feet of 5-inch supply hose and 750 feet of 3-inch attack hose. The hose will be used to equip the department’s newest engine.

“These funds, in essence, will allow the department to equip the new engine with all new hoses which in turn allows funds for other new equipment such as extrication tools,” said Department of Public Safety Director, Chris Vinson. “The new hose is stronger, more reliable and lighter.  This brings safety to both our crews and citizens.”

Highland Park officials, firefighters, executives and employees from Ragland, Strother & Lafitte and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special public event where the grant package will be presented:

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment; training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to nearly 1,900 different organizations totaling more than $29 million—including more than $1.7 million in Texas.  Through the program, independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Ragland, Strother and Lafitte, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

“Firefighters face dangers and challenges that most people can’t even imagine,” said Gregg Lafitte, principal at Ragland, Strother & Lafitte. “Safe and effective fire hoses are a basic, necessary tool Highland Park firefighters need to make this community safe.”
