W. Scott Ragland – Partner

Scott joined Ragland, Strother & Lafitte upon graduating from the University of Texas in 1978. He earned his CIC designation from the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors in 1981, his CPCU designation from the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters in 1983 and became an Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) in 1989. Scott has been an active member of numerous organizations including the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas/Texas/America, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the City of University Park , the Dallas Country Club and Goodwill Industries of Dallas. His deep insurance expertise and in-depth business and civic involvement provide Scott with the ability to provide wise counsel on insurance matters to both individuals and the professional community. Scott and his wife Terry have two children, Matt and Kate.

D. Gregg Lafitte – Partner

Gregg was the owner of Cornerstone Insurance from 1987 until 1995 at which time he merged with Ragland Insurance to form Ragland, Strother & Lafitte. Prior to becoming an insurance professional, Gregg spent ten years in the building materials business after graduating from Highland Park High School and then the University of Texas in 1978. Gregg’s hands-on business experience coupled with his extensive insurance expertise allows him to help business professionals mitigate risk and protect their investments. His areas of expertise include real estate, oil & gas, manufacturing & distribution and retail. Gregg has been an active member of several organizations including the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Park Cities Presbyterian Church, the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas/Texas and the Dallas Country Club. Gregg is also President of the Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association. He has a wife, Jahn York Lafitte, and two children, Michelle and Ryan.

Cruger S. Ragland – Founder

Cruger has been with Ragland, Strother & Lafitte pretty much from the beginning. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1954 with a business degree in real estate and insurance and he has both a CIC and CPCU designation from the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. Cruger has belonged to numerous professional organizations including the IRA Education Committee, the Texas Fire Protection Standards Committee for the Texas Legislature, the State Board of Insurance (Townhouse Committee) and the Insurance Publishing House, where he served as Director. In addition, Cruger has served as an Aetna OPEC Representative and was the Western Region Spokesman for the Great Performance Executive Council. He has also held several Chairman and President titles within the IIAT, IIAD and CPCU. Cruger’s civic involvement has included roles with Dallas Summer Musicals, State Fair Livestock Auction, Dallas Crime Commission and Central Christian Church where he was Chairman of the Board from 1978 until 1993. He has earned the Distinguished Service Award from IIAD and the Shank Class Award from Central Christian Church.

John Stollenwerck – Partner

John began his insurance career at Ragland, Strother & Lafitte (RSL) as a Producer in 2002, and was named Partner in the firm in the spring of 2015. Prior to joining RSL, John worked for several years in the technology consulting and sales fields with EDS, Brightstar and Actuate. Before embarking on his business career, John was a professional golfer, acquiring an Australian PGA tour card. John’s business experience allows him to understand the real world risk issues facing companies and service firms today. His areas of expertise include extensive experience in the golf/country club industry, as well as acumen in technology, real estate, lawyer’s E & O (errors and omissions) and manufacturing. John is a graduate of the University of Missouri and has earned his CIC designation. He married his college sweetheart, Stephanie, and they have two children. During his time away from the office, John enjoys golf, hunting, fishing and his role as Usher for HPUMC.

Janie Ussery – Administrative Manager

Janie, a native Texan, was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas and attended Richland Junior College. Janie has more than 30 years insurance industry expertise in Personal and Commercial lines.  She has been with Ragland Strother & Lafitte since 1994, operating as the Administrative Manager since 1998.  She has received numerous professional designations including Commercial Lines ACSR, CISR and General Lines License P & C (State of Texas). Janie has served as a VP, President and Treasurer of the Red River AMS Users Group.  In addition she has served as the committee chair for the National Education Committee for NetVU, whose members number in the thousands.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for NetVU.  She has a husband, Richard, and two children, Robert and Caitlin who are both insurance professionals. In her spare time, Janie enjoys reading , traveling and spending time with her family.

Surry Shaffer – Producer

Surry has been in the insurance business for all of his professional life. His main area of expertise is within the entertainment industry where Surry is one of the foremost insurance experts with respect to Film, Television and Corporate production. He also has significant credentials within the health industry where he has worked with numerous hospitals, long-term assisted care facilities and on-site health care providers. In addition, Surry has a broad range of business clients including numerous furniture retailers, wholesalers and importers. Surry is a licensed Risk Manager with several professional designations including Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). Surry, a native Dallasite, is a graduate of the University of Texas in Arlington and lives in Dallas with his wife Robin and their two sons.
